It has been a while since Opensignal gave us any new reports on the latest Global Mobile Network Rankings. The previous one was back at the end of November 2024, when we last saw both Unifi and U Mobile leading the 5G connectivity experience in Malaysia. In this latest report, we get a glimpse of how we are doing.
Although Opensignal did not specify any of our local telcos (CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Yes and others), the new Global Mobile Network Rankings did mention how Malaysia is performing, According to its Global Network Excellence Index, which provides a comprehensive look at mobile network performance worldwide, Malaysia has dropped two spots to 38th place.
Dropping two spots doesn't sound that bad. However, the country's performance in Excellent Consistent Quality — a key indicator of how reliably networks support high-demand activities like video streaming, gaming, and video calls — also saw a decline. Malaysia fell four positions in this category, landing at 62nd place globally.

Despite the dip, Malaysia continues to rank within the top 10 among Asia-Pacific countries, outperforming regional peers such as Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. For your information, Opensignal analyses three key metrics in this report, which are 4G/5G Availability, Excellent Consistent Quality and 4G and 5G download speeds.
