In this short announcement by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysia has climbed to the 28th spot in terms of Internet speed. We know that there's still a lot of work to be done, but it's quite an improvement compared to 2017 when Malaysia was ranked 56th.

According to MCMC, the network speed test in Malaysia now reaches up to 70.18Mbps and 44.50Mbps for both downloading and uploading respectively. If you must know, our nation's download speed was only 22.26Mpbs so that's great. To add on to that, MCMC also revealed that the number of fixed broadband users is now 1.2 million as of 2018. This is another huge jump, as in the year 2017 the figure was only 150,000. As for mobile broadband users, there is an increased rate of 121.1% as of 2018 compared to 2014's 68.3%, that's an average annual growth rate of 15.4%.

“As of December 31, 2018, the fourth-generation mobile telecommunications network (4G) achieved a domestic coverage rate of 79.7%, while high-speed broadband (HSBB) users increased from 3.5 million in 2015 to 5.5 million last year.” MCMC stated.

Finally, under the MSAP measures, it seems that telecommunication companies will have to co-operate with the reduced cost of high-speed broadband services. But what do you think? Stay tuned for more local tech news at TechNave.com.
