Malaysia does not yet have an "urgent need" to adopt nuclear energy, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as it still sees a lot of potential in solar energy and the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). So, what should you know about it?

For your information, the Prime Minister said this at a media briefing at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 when asked whether Malaysia was considering promoting nuclear energy, especially small modular reactors (SMRs). However, he did not rule out the "possibility" of accepting employment, especially with the big plans for building data centres in Malaysia.

In addition, SMRs are capable of generating approximately 300 megawatts of electricity and can be integrated into existing building infrastructure or connected to the national grid at a lower cost. They are also said to have the potential to be alternative energy for data centres that require large-scale power.
