Malaysia has officially introduced a 10-year passport with a new rate of RM350 for citizens aged 18 to 59, effective after being gazetted through the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026 on 3 June 2026. Here’s everything you need to know.

A longer validity period for the Malaysian passport

For senior citizens aged 60 and above, the fee is set at RM175, while registered persons with disabilities (OKU) are eligible for a free passport. This change makes the validity period of Malaysian passports longer than before, which was only 5 years.

For your information, this will indirectly reduce the frequency of travel document renewals for citizens. Although the new regulations have been gazetted, the Malaysian Immigration Department has yet to announce the official date for the implementation of applications at all existing counters and platforms.

Moreover, this move is expected to provide great convenience to Malaysians, especially those who travel internationally frequently, as well as reduce congestion at immigration counters for passport renewals. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly.
