Malaysia recorded 84 million cyber attacks per day in Q4 2022

Global cybersecurity solutions provider Fortinet has revealed that Malaysia experienced an average of 84 million cyber attacks every day during the fourth quarter of 2022 (Q4 2022). These attacks include viruses, botnets and exploits that were detected by its FortiGuard Labs, making our country one of the most vulnerable locations in the region. 

According to Bernama, FortiGuard Labs in Q4 2022 detected:

  • 61.1 million viruses
  • 50.2 million botnet attacks
  • 7.5 billion exploits

Fortinet Southeast Asia and Hong Kong vice-president Peerapong Jongvibool said that by comparison, cyber threats on the global scale in Q4 2022 recorded around 200 billion attacks per day. He further elaborated that Fortinet was able to detect the threats and neutralise them with its artificial intelligence (AI) technology and machine learning capabilities.
