The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) is now using baggage scanning machines equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology to strengthen the level of security at main entry points throughout the country. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Director General of Customs Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin said the scanning machine helps JKDM in terms of identification and the image analysis process, thus being able to analyze the pattern of smuggling of prohibited goods, especially narcotics, more efficiently.

In addition, he said it also enables the department to analyse the pattern of smuggling of prohibited goods, especially narcotics, more efficiently. He informed that as many as 40 units of scanning machines have been installed throughout the country during last May and June which can provide data accuracy and identification can be implemented quickly and accurately and can help JKDM reduce leakage and increase revenue.

Moreover, with the placement of 40 units of the new baggage scanning machine, the total number of new scanning machines successfully installed and operating at entry points throughout Malaysia is 66 units. JKDM informed that they are still in the process of gradually replacing the old scanning machines with new, more sophisticated and high-tech scanning machines that will be added this year and next year at strategic locations that have been identified.
