The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has revealed that Malaysia’s air passenger traffic reached 9.2 million in January 2025, 28.2% more than the same period last year. In fact, January 2025’s air passenger traffic stood at 106.1% of January 2019, surpassing pre-pandemic volumes for the first time.

As reported by Bernama, MAVCOM said that this development highlights the continued growth of Malaysia’s aviation sector. It added that passenger volumes grew 3.8 per cent month-on-month (m-o-m) from December 2024 and 28.2 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) from January 2024, reflecting continued momentum in both domestic and international travel.

MAVCOM added that domestic passenger traffic stood at 4.4 million, registering a 6.9 per cent m-o-m increase and 32.7 per cent y-o-y growth. Meanwhile, international passenger traffic reached 4.8 million, showing a 1.2 per cent m-o-m decline but a 24.4 per cent y-o-y increase.
