Yup, you read that right. Malaysia is seated at the number 3 spot in the South East Asia (SEA) region which is not bad. But in terms of globally in the Worldwide Broadband Speed League, we are ranked 63 out of 189 countries with an average download speed of 6.69Mbps. Hey, at least we are faster than our neighbours Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam (lol).

Although that's the case, the comparison with Thailand who is at second place in SEA (rank 29 globally) has a much better average download speed of 16.85Mbps, then, of course, Singapore is the world's champion achieving a 55.13Mbps putting every country to shame. With that speed, it could download a 7.5GB HD movie in just 18 minutes.

This global broadband speed comparison was done by the Cable.co.uk from the United Kingdom (sitting at 31st) and was regulated by SamKnows. And here's the funny thing, according to SamKnows, UK's average download speed was 36.2Mbps last year which we find it ironic. Anyway, all the analysed data collected was also done by a research group called M-Lab, which is a partnership between New America's Open Technology Institute, Google Open Source Research and Princeton University's PlanetLab. So I guess you could say this is quite a "legit" test with more than 63 million speed test done for 12 months.
