The US Tariff set by President Donald Trump has caused a lot of problems. To address this issue, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the Malaysian Cabinet will meet this Friday to discuss the implications of a recent United States Supreme Court decision regarding tariff policy. His statement came during a media engagement after attending an iftar event and the launch of a Ramadan community programme in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Supreme Court Decision on Tariffs Spurs Review

The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling last Friday found that the former U.S. President did not have the authority under federal law to impose broad tariff measures without congressional approval. Following the ruling, reports indicated that new tariffs of 10% might be imposed globally under a different legal authority. Anwar said Malaysia’s response will be determined after the Cabinet’s Friday discussions.

MITI Coordinating Stakeholder Response

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, explained that the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) is currently examining the situation. According to the prime minister, MITI is engaging with business stakeholders as well as government counterparts in Washington and partner nations in Southeast Asia to assess the next steps.

Government Awaiting Outcome Before Acting

For now, Malaysia’s official response is on hold until after the Cabinet deliberates on Friday. Anwar urged patience, telling reporters that the government will respond appropriately once it completes its review. He declined to provide further details ahead of the meeting.
