Malaysia will officially implement MyVISA 2.0, a fully digital visa application system, starting 1 August 2025. This upgraded platform aims to simplify visa applications using artificial intelligence (AI), smart automation, and improved digital features.

A smarter way to apply for visas

The new system was announced by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah during the Immigration Day 2025 celebration in Putrajaya.

Designed to replace traditional, paper-based applications, MyVISA 2.0 leverages technologies such as optical character recognition (OCR) and smart automation to streamline the process.

With MyVISA 2.0, applicants can complete the entire visa application process online, without needing to visit any Malaysian embassy or consulate.

This includes passport scanning, document uploads, and even virtual interviews, all accessible through a dedicated mobile application.

According to Immigration Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, the platform will send real-time status updates via push notifications.

Once approved, the digital visa will be issued with a QR code for verification. The system also features live chat support to assist users during the application process.

MyVISA 2.0 builds upon the initial MyVISA platform, which was introduced on 1 December 2021, reflecting Malaysia’s broader push toward digital public service delivery.

Our thoughts

The mobile-first approach and removal of in-person requirements are timely improvements, especially for business travelers and digital nomads.

These updates bring Malaysia’s visa processing system closer to global digital standards and support the country’s Smart Nation aspirations.
