The Deputy Prime Minister now shared that Malaysia will gradually reduce coal-based energy generation and that no new coal-fired power stations will be opened. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation also shared some targets involving energy generation. Malaysia aims to increase the use of renewable energy to $40 in the national fuel mix by 2035, and the figure is expected to increase to 70% by 2050.
Today, renewable energy capacity is at 28%. In addition, it is also shared by the government towards increasing the flexibility of the grid by 20%, through investment in smart grids and energy storage systems by 2035. At the global level, the demand for green energy is increasing, and Malaysia now wants to seize the opportunity, as well as attract more foreign investment into the country.
