When the going gets tough, the tough get going. For Malaysians, that means finding ways to save money through various means. E-commerce sites have played a key role in this area, with Carousell being one of the platforms that saw an increase in transactions during the movement control order (MCO).

According to a new report by the company, Malaysians have been more active when it comes to selling or buying second-hand items on Carousell. Between February to June 2020, Malaysians earned an average of about RM1396 by selling items on the platform. As you can imagine, selling items became necessary for many people, who were either hoping to save up for emergencies or to put food on the table if they lost their source of income.

Mind you, that average amount earned is pretty skewed. The value of over 690000 transactions varied greatly, especially since some of them are allegedly high-value products like cars. Electronics were among those most searched for, as people looked for items that would help them work from home more efficiently. Malaysians were also more active in selling their creations on the platform, with face masks seeing a major increase in demand due to COVID-19.

Some of the stories on Carousell are quite inspiring, so do check them out. But with that said, have you bought or sold anything on Carousell before?
