Malaysia Military joined the police officers and local authorities to ensure public compliance of the Movement Control Order
(MCO) to flatten the infection curve of COVID-19 on 22 March 2020. They will be patrolling and control the entry points at the borders and also at the grocery markets.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob mentioned the 50,000 Armed Forces includes the military, police, RELA, Malaysian Civil Defense Force and local authorities are deployed to monitor the situation only. This action was taken in compliance with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 which was not claiming a state of emergency. The military personnel will only help the police in advising the public to adhere to the MCO and also setting up roadblocks, patrols in shopping malls, hospitals, and markets but not in making an arrest.

He also mentioned that there have been reports on congested supermarkets. In order to ensure people adhere to the advice of keeping one meter away from each other,  the police and army will be stationed at supermarkets and be assisted by the local authorities. Aside from that, the circulated news of armored vehicles used at roadblocks was a piece of false news to scare people.

With that said, we hope that everyone will adhere to the law and practice social distancing during the MCO and if you do feel like shopping at home, do check out our previous article on the lists of online grocery shopping stores. So stay tuned for more local news updates at TechNave.com!
