A local cosplayer has filed a police report over explicit photos of her, allegedly created by editing her existing images using artificial intelligence (AI), being circulated and sold online. So, what should you know about it?
In a post to her X (formerly Twitter) page, Malaysian cosplayer @Elyanasparks claims that the alleged perpetrator is also reportedly selling similarly edited photos of other individuals, including minors. The post, first made to the social media platform yesterday (Jan 21), has received over 450,000 views at the time of writing. Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar confirmed receiving the report when contacted.
“We have since handed over the case to the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further investigation,” he said. It is learnt that the police will also state the matter.
A screenshot shared with her post also revealed that the same perpetrator allegedly accepted requests for explicit edits at a fee of RM2 per image. The screenshot included an e-wallet QR code used for payments. In a follow-up reply to her initial post, @Elyanasparks spoke out against normalising such violations.
