It's 2024 and flooding is still an issue in Malaysia. However, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) announced that they are planning to launch a new web portal to report and display flooded areas by the end of 2024.
According to PETRA, the unnamed web portal has been in development and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Malaysia is in charge of it. Currently, representatives of the state government, federal agencies, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and private agencies are engaged in this project starting this year.
Sources also reported that the parties involved have given positive feedback on the web portal. If all goes well, users will be able to access to view maps of flooded areas and share them across their social media accounts. On top of that, it can also assist home buyers to view which area to avoid buying houses that are at risk.
