During the National Energy Council (MTN) Meeting Number 2 of 2025, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he confirmed that approval had been given to build an e-Mobility Service Platform, which will integrate and coordinate the operations of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide. So, what should you know about it?

EVs are in demand in Malaysia

For your information, the purchase and use of electric vehicles is increasing in Malaysia, with the latest figures estimating around 4345 electric cars were registered as of October 2025, and this figure is expected to increase further, especially with the return of import duties for EV vehicles starting next year.

Moreover, this increase is seen in line with the government's mandate to develop 10000 electric vehicle charging points in Malaysia by the end of 2025. The number of charging companies/platforms has also been seen to have increased significantly, with most of them coming with their own applications.

Furthermore, this means that there will soon be an app that EV owners can use to allow them to find the nearest electric charger to them more easily without having to switch apps.

Besides that, this can be seen as a confirmation of the announcement made by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in March this year to develop an application that will map EV charging locations throughout Malaysia.

There are challenges, though

There are several challenges that can be seen in developing an application like this, such as integration between different charging platforms and also ensuring that information about the location and activity of these charging points is accurate or not.

Several charging companies also offer the ability to reserve charging spots. However, it is still unknown whether such functions will also be featured on the e-MSP application.
