If you haven't updated to iOS 15.2 yet, you might want to hold off first. According to 9to5mac.com, it seems that many iPhone users cannot access WhatsApp after updating the latest software. But in some cases, WhatsApp crashes immediately after tapping on it even without the software update.
As seen on Twitter, WhatsApp is just crashing randomly to many iPhone users. The odd thing about this is that there was a bug fixed update patch on the App Store yesterday but even the WhatsApp beta version that is available on TestFlight crashes. Some are speculating that this may have something to do with Meta's servers than the iOS.

Besides the regular WhatsApp, the WhatsApp Business app is also crashing due to an unknown bug. The WhatsApp team has yet to acknowledge what is happening and we can't do anything right now.
