Recently, Maxim Malaysia stated that the e-hailing sector remains open to individuals of all ages, with no upper age limit, provided applicants meet the necessary licensing and safety requirements. So, what should you know about it?

East Malaysia frequently has the highest number of experienced drivers

According to 2026 data, 14% of Maxim drivers are over 55 years old. Areas with the highest number of experienced drivers include Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Miri City, Sandakan and Kuantan. Maxim said that to register as their driver, one must be at least 21 years old, have a Competent Driving License (CDL), insurance, a PSV license, and an E-Hailing Vehicle Permit (EVP).

Moreover, basic health checks at registered clinics are also mandatory to ensure drivers are healthy and able to operate vehicles safely. All these conditions are regulated by APAD under the Land Public Transport Act 2017, with the supervision of JPJ.

Additionally, Maxim Malaysia's Head of Legal Compliance & Government Relations, Mushfique Ahmed Chowdhury, stressed that income-generating opportunities should be determined by commitment and compliance, not age.
