Opensignal is back with their Mobile Network Experience Report for April 2019 and this time Maxis and Celcom are vying for the top spot with each retaining clear positions like Download Speed Experience (Maxis) and 4G Availability (Celcom). Both are neck and neck in Video Experience though while Maxis retains best Latency Experience and Celcom achieves best Upload Speed experience, for a draw for top spot.

Oh, and Ipoh is surprisingly the best place to be if you like fast Mobile Internet, offering the highest Download and Upload Internet speeds in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur on the other hand, supposedly outperforms in 4G Availability with almost every operator able to provide a 4G connection more than 80% of the time.

While they also observed significant growth in other telcos like Digi, U Mobile and Unifi, most of their ratings were either fair or poor compared to Maxis and Celcom. The other 2 Opensignal awards of Latency Experience and Upload Speed Experience were won by Maxis and Celcom respectively.

Opensignal do remark that 4G growth is slowing down now that Malaysia has gone past 80% 4G Availability, indicating that we could soon see 5G coming to Malaysia (we think probably end of the year or 2020). What do you think? Anyone from Ipoh who can vouch for its Mobile Internet prowess? Can you actually get 4G 80% of the time in KL like Opensignal says you should be able to?
