The Maxis team, together with guests from MCMC, celebrating the launch of the eKelas portal with students and their parents during the Maxis eKelas Carnival this past Sunday
Did you know? Maxis is having this community outreach programme called eKelas and they just did it last Sunday in Putrajaya. The eKelas Carnival on that day attracted more than 700 attendees, teaching them digital learning to every participant comprising of students and parents.
If you never heard of it, the Maxis eKelas programme is basically an after-school digital learning initiative that aims to improve the academic performance of students in the rural communities. There are live tutorials, group learning and interactive digital content on three subjects - Science, Mathematics and English for Form 1, 2 and 3 students. Delivered through Pusat Internet 1Malaysia (PI1Ms) under Maxis care nationwide, the Community Broadband Centres serve as digital hubs for communities in the underserved areas, with more than 2400 students actively participating in the live tutorials.
Speaking at the event, YBhg Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus, Chief Officer, Communications And Digital Ecosystem Sector, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said,
“Technology and the Internet are changing the way we communicate and access information, which is why it is important for us to ensure digital inclusiveness for all Malaysians. So, it is indeed gratifying that Maxis is utilising the PI1Ms under its care to further benefit the community and giving it a greater purpose through digital education. And with the introduction of the eKelas portal, Maxis is enabling more students to truly embrace digital learning.”
In the near future, Maxis plans to expand its eKelas to an additional 25 locations, delivering the programme through a total of 45 PI1Ms nationwide with at least 10,000 students accessing the portal by 2018.
