If you're a Maxis user and frequently travel, here's an unwelcome bit of news. Maxis has recently increased the prices for some of its data roaming passes again. The company now charges users RM99 for its 15-day multi-country data pass, while the 30-day pass costs RM149.

For those unaware, this is the second time Maxis has hiked the prices for its data roaming passes this year. The first one was in January 2024, when the 30-day pass went from RM99 to RM119. It was also when Maxis first introduced the 15-day multi-country data pass. With the second price hike, Maxis users have seen a price increase for the 30-day pass by RM50, over 50% of its original price from the start of 2024.

Of course, it's not all bad news. The 15-day and 30-day data roaming passes now support 103 countries, a notable increase from 75 countries. Besides that, prices for the ASEAN short-duration ASEAN data passes remain unchanged. However, coverage for China, Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan has been moved to a new 7-day APAC data pass. The new APAC data pass costs RM69, providing data coverage in 27 countries within the Asia-Pacific region.

Now that you know, you shouldn't be surprised to see the price increase for data roaming passes. And if you don't think Maxis offers a good deal, you can always get a temporary local SIM. Which option do you usually pick? Let us know in the comments on our Facebook page!
