OpenSignal recently revealed their latest findings on the state of networks in Malaysia for 2018. Turns out that Maxis are now the best 4G network in Malaysia (based on the results of OpenSignal's survey). About 6 months prior to this there was a similar study conducted by OpenSignal which concluded that in terms of 4G networks, Yes 4G and Maxis were neck and neck, both scoring higher than other networks in Malaysia.

Throughout the 6 months until April 2018, Maxis had been incrementally improving their 4G network gaining awards in terms of download speeds, latency and availability for both 3G and 4G LTE networks. U Mobile also managed to gain an award in 3G Latency as well, showing some progress.

Throughout the timespan mentioned, Maxis 4G is still the only network that crossed 20Mbps during the OpenSignal speed test. That being said, as more people start to subscribe to the Maxis network, speeds are expected to average around 17Mbps as compared to 15.7Mbps by Yes 4G. On the flipside, Yes 4G has the highest availability rate of 93.2% in Kuala Lumpur as compared to other networks.

Other than Maxis, networks such as Digi, Celcom, Yes 4G, U Mobile and lastly Unifi Mobile have expanded and increase their availability rate to more than 75% in the last 6 months as well. As technology becomes more and more advanced, all the networks mentioned above will eventually further improve their network coverage and speed to stay relevant in the market.
