Today, Maxis announced a major expansion of its fibre network infrastructure through deployment in Penang. The company's new target goal is to connect more than 100,00 homes in the state by 2027, rolling out across all districts such as Jelutong, Georgetown, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, and Bayan Baru, alongside key locations in Mainland Penang.
During the event, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow from the Penang State Government welcomed Maxis’ fibre expansion initiative, which is aligned with the Penang2030 vision to build a smart, green and inclusive state. Maxis currently operates its fibre network spanning over 23,000 kilometres across the country, with the capacity to serve more than half a million homes.
Maxis expressed its appreciation to the State Government for its foresight and commitment to expanding digital access and promoting competition. This refers to the company's fibre expansion in the state facilitated by the Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines recently introduced by the Penang State Government, a first-of-its-kind initiative in Malaysia, which enables various telecommunications providers to deploy fibre networks more quickly and efficiently across the state.

A launch ceremony was held today at Dewan MPKK Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, officiated by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, alongside Goh Seow Eng, Chief Executive Officer of Maxis. The initiative underscores Maxis’ long-term commitment to supporting the state’s digital agenda towards achieving the Penang2030 vision of becoming a family-focused, green, and smart state.
