In a recent announcement, Maybank confirmed that certain older version phones and browsers may not be able to run their sites and services safely in Malaysia. This includes phones below Android 10 and iOS 15.
Android 11 and above and iOS 16 and above devices will still have access, but Maybank says that they may have a lower daily transaction limit. While this announcement is just for Maybank, we expect that this will also soon apply to other financial institutions, banks and eWallets.
Why do we have to update?
We've mentioned the dangers of devices with older operating systems before, but for a refresher such devices tend to be more vulnerable to hacking. Restricting access to these devices is for your own safety.
Laptops and desktops are also affected as access will be restricted based on how old your browser is. Here's a list of older browsers you should update as soon as possible:
- Opera Version 116 and below
- Microsoft Edge (Windows) Version 133 and below
- Chrome (Windows) Version 133 and below
- Mozilla Firefox (Windows) Version 134 and below
- Safari (Apple) Version 17 and below
Maybank services and apps affected by this include Maybank2u Web, the MAE app, M2U Biz and M2E. Have you updated yet? Does this mean you're going to have to buy a new phone? Share your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com
