You read that right, Maybank is preparing to roll out a new retail banking mobile application as part of its broader ROAR30 five-year strategy. Not only that, it may potentially replace its current MAE app that millions of Malaysians use for digital banking and lifestyle features.

A Single Platform for Regional Growth

Maybank President and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli said the planned new app is designed to “leapfrog” the bank’s current digital capabilities and bring enhanced features to customers across the region. The new platform is being developed as a scalable solution that can be deployed across multiple markets rather than creating tailor-made apps for each country.

The initiative is part of Maybank’s RM10 billion investment in technology over the next five years under ROAR30, aimed at strengthening customer engagement, improving digital banking services and supporting growth in fee-based income. Indonesia has been identified as a likely first market for the app’s rollout, followed by Malaysia and Singapore.

What Might Happen to the MAE App

The existing MAE app, which evolved from Maybank’s earlier digital offerings into a primary platform for personal banking, budgeting and lifestyle transactions, could be replaced by the new app over time if the transition proceeds as planned. While the CEO acknowledged that the MAE app is well-established, new capabilities and a broader digital roadmap are driving the development of a unified platform across the bank’s footprint.

Maybank’s move reflects wider trends in banking where institutions seek to streamline digital touchpoints and offer more powerful, versatile apps that can deliver everything from core banking services to payments and product recommendations in a single interface.

Development and Future Announcements

Details such as the full feature set and exact launch timetable for the new app have not yet been disclosed, with Maybank indicating that further announcements will be made later in 2026 as development progresses. That being said, we think we will be seeing some negative reception towards this, as MAE is only six years old this year, and we only recently transitioned from the previous M2U My app. Let us know what you think, and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
