Today, not only did MediaTek announce one but two new chipsets which are the Helio G96 and Helio G88. If you are familiar with the naming schemes, you should know by now that these new SoCs are designed for mobile gaming at their core. Moreover, MediaTek also integrated some mobile photography technology capabilities.

Starting with the Helio G96, MediaTek said that this chipset can support 120Hz displays with up to FHD+ resolution. To add on, it also has no limitation in supporting both LCD and AMOLED displays so that's great for all the Android phone brands in the market. Besides adding support for 108MP cameras, the company also made improvements for current 4G phones with a fast Cat-13 4G LTE WorldMode modem integration.

On the other hand, the Helio G88 chipset is a lesser SoC version that supports up to 90Hz displays. Inside the structure, it features an octa-core CPU that has 2x ARM Cortext-A75 CPUs clocking up to 2.0GHz only. This chipset is likely to be in mid-range tier smartphones since it can only support 64MP cameras. But at least it also supports bokeh effects as well as Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS).

Anyway, to sum it all up. Here are the key features of the MediaTek Helio G96 and Helio G88 chipsets:

MediaTek Helio G96:

  • 120Hz FullHD+ displays
  • 108MP main cameras
  • Fast 4G LTE with Dual 4G SIM
  • MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite game technology
