MediaTek announces the 5G capable Helio M70

The Helio M70 has finally been unveiled over at Computex 2019. It comes with 5G capabilities on a 7nm process. In addition, it is the first platform that supports ARM’s Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU.

Smartphones that will be equipped with the Helio M70 is able to utilize the 5G standalone and non-standalone sub-6GHz networks as well as 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. The president of MediaTek, Joe Chen mentions that the chip is the most powerful 5G SoC announced to date.

We can expect to see the chip shipped out in the 3rd quarter of 2019 and the first smartphones equipped with the chip should be hitting the markets early 2020. So far, no full tech specs and features of the SoC has been released with MediaTek promising to issue a separate announcement in the coming months. OEMs that are collaborating with MediaTek include OPPO and vivo so we may be seeing the chipset in their smartphones first.

It is claimed that the Helio M70 can reach a peak output of 4.7Gbps download speeds on the sub-6GHz network and supports New Radio (NR) 2 Component Carrier.
