MediaTek has just announced the Dimensity 7400 chipset, designed to improve gaming, connectivity, and artificial intelligence (AI) performance in the affordable smartphone segment. The Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X are processor chips designed to offer cutting-edge gaming and camera technology. So, what should you know about them?

For your information, the Dimensity 7400X chip is more specialised for clamshell phones with dual displays. Both are built on TSMC's 4nm technology with an octa-core CPU configuration that combines 4 x Arm Cortex-A78 operating at up to 2.6GHz and 4 x Arm Cortex-A55 operating at up to 2.0GHz. They are equipped with an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. According to MediaTek, this chip only uses between 14% and 36% of the power when playing games compared to other competitors.

Furthermore, it supports MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0 (MAGT) 3.0 for better graphics performance and an AI optimiser that adjusts game settings based on the device's current state. At the same time, it integrates the NPU 655, which has a 15% increase in power compared to the Dimensity 7300.

In addition, the processor powered by the Imagiq 950 ISP chip, the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X can promise good image performance even in low light. In addition, they support advanced AI camera technology and Google Ultra HDR for higher dynamic range, brighter colours, and better contrast, both for photos and videos.

Moreover, the chip also comes with a 5G R16 Modem (3CC-CA) and support for tri-band WiFi 6E for stable connectivity. In addition, the chip supports FHD+ displays at a refresh rate of 144Hz, LPDDR5 memory, UFS3.1-based storage, and Bluetooth 5.4 as a complement. The first smartphones powered by the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X chips will be available in the first quarter of 2025.
