When it comes to mobile devices, many consider Qualcomm the superior manufacturer. However, MediaTek seems to believe its next flagship mobile chipset can beat Qualcomm's upcoming flagship. MediaTek even plans to launch the Dimensity 9500 ahead of its competitor.

Planned release on 22 September 2025

According to Digital Chat Station, MediaTek has set the tentative launch date of the Dimensity 9500 chipset for 22 September 2025. For your info, that's a day before Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit (23 to 25 September). Moreover, Qualcomm is expected to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite this year, a direct competitor to the Dimensity 9500.

Dimensity could win for once

So, why that specific date? Maybe MediaTek is highly confident of the Dimensity 9500. If MediaTek's latest flagship performs well enough to outshine the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite, an earlier launch could help MediaTek steal Qualcomm's thunder (so to speak).

Earlier this month, the tipster @UniverseIce claimed that the Dimensity 9500 has a 40% improvement in energy efficiency over its predecessor. It also allegedly delivers 40% higher ray tracing performance. Of course, whether it can outperform Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite remains to be seen.

Debuting in the vivo X300 Pro

Previously, it was rumoured that the vivo X300 Pro would feature the Dimensity 9500. vivo has a tendency to launch its latest X series smartphones with a mix of flagship MediaTek and Qualcomm chipsets, so this rumour has merit. In that case, we can see how these two chipsets compare when the vivo X300 series launches.
