MediaTek is seen expanding its premium mid-range chipset lineup with the introduction of the MediaTek Dimensity 7450 and MediaTek Dimensity 7450X. That said, what should you know about it?

Both chipsets share a similar configuration

For your information, both chips are expected to be used in upcoming smartphones, including foldable devices, with early reports suggesting the 7450X model could potentially appear in the Motorola Razr 70. Both chips share a similar configuration with a 4nm process-based build and an octa-core CPU that combines four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz with four efficient Cortex-A55 cores.

Additionally, the graphics processor uses an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU to handle gaming and visual workloads. MediaTek also includes a sixth-generation NPU to improve AI performance on the device, with a claimed improvement of around seven per cent compared to the previous generation, especially for AI-based camera functions and edge AI processing.

For gaming, this chip is equipped with HyperEngine technology with Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0 that optimises the balance between performance and power consumption. For connectivity, both chips support Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 and 5G networks with download speeds of up to 3.27Gbps via 3CC carrier aggregation support.

Moreover, camera capabilities are also emphasised with support for up to 200MP sensors via the Imagiq 950 ISP in addition to 4K HDR video recording, hardware-based noise reduction and Google Ultra HDR support. The display is supported up to WFHD+ resolution at a refresh rate of 120Hz or Full HD+ up to 144Hz, while the memory supports LPDDR5 and LPDDR4X with speeds up to 6400Mbps.

Besides that, this chip is compatible with UFS 2.2 and UFS 3.1 storage-wise. The main difference between the two models lies in the Dimensity 7450X, which offers additional support for foldable devices,s including dual-display functionality for flip designs.

Moreover, this allows for more efficient simultaneous use of the outer and inner screens, making it more suitable for the foldable category compared to the Dimensity 7450, which is more aimed at standard smartphones.
