Although it's not accessible in many countries yet, 5G is the next big thing in trend and what many companies are developing towards. However, 5G is still relatively new and phones with 5G tend to be more expensive. That's why MediaTek made a cheaper Dimensity chipset to bring down prices.
Yesterday, MediaTek announced the new Dimensity 700 chipset at its annual summit. This is a 5G chipset that's manufactured on a 7nm process, which makes it cheaper than other 5G chipsets. The specs sheet indicate that the Dimensity 700 comes with an 8-core CPU that contains two Cortex-A76 (2.2GHz) and six Cortex-A55 (2GHz) CPU cores, as well as a Mali-G57 GPU (950MHz).

Obviously, the key feature of the Dimensity 700 is 5G connectivity. Besides that, it has 5G Carrier Aggregation, dual 5G SIM support, and a 5G UltraSave power-saving technology. Other features include the AI accelerator, as well as support displays with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz and multiple voice AIs.
Whether Dimensity 700 chipset phones will really be cheaper is yet to be proven. But if it's significant, it will be something to look forward to when Malaysia gets more widespread 5G coverage. With that said, what else can companies do to make phones more affordable? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
