Recently, Meta and AMD announced a strategic partnership to power Meta’s artificial intelligence data centre, estimated to be worth over USD100 billion (~RM389.45 billion). That said, what should you know about it?
Meta will be allowed access to a huge amount of power
For your information, Meta will gain access to up to 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPU processing power through this partnership, with 1 gigawatt of processing power available starting this year. Meta says this partnership will allow them to continue developing AI support in line with demand and usage. It will also make it easier for Meta to adapt their development environment to AMD's GPU offerings.
Moreover, this partnership also gives Meta access to purchase 160 million AMD shares, which is about 10% of the semiconductor company. However, several conditions are set for granting this share access, including ensuring that AMD's share price reaches a trading value of USD600 (~RM2336.70) per unit.
For AMD, they also previously had a similar partnership with OpenAI, which gave OpenAI the space to buy up to a 10% stake in AMD. As of now, there are no further details on the news. So, we should wait for more announcements from Meta and AMD.
