If you've been following various news, you might have heard of the term NFT (Non-Fungible Token). We won't go into the details today, but NFTs are essentially pieces of data that represent digital items of value. Now, Meta could be looking to join this bandwagon.

According to the Financial Times (via Engadget), Meta is working on ways to create, display, and sell NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. The company wants to build a marketplace for these digital collectables, allowing Meta's userbase to buy and sell NFTs. However, the details on what the company plans to sell as collectables are currently unknown.

What kind of digital items could Meta sell?

Meta is still considering the merits of such a project and claimed that things could change. But Adam Mosseri (Head of Instagram) mentioned that Instagram has been exploring the idea of NFT actively. Based on what we know of the platform, the company could sell NFTs like fan badges or unique stickers.

Everything is speculation at the moment, but it's obvious that many companies are interested in the concept. Having said that, are these digital collectables something you'd buy? What if mobile games had characters as NFTs? Share your opinions in the comments!
