Meta is reportedly planning to develop a submarine cable worldwide connecting all users, over 40,000 kilometres long. The project is expected to cost more than $10 billion to implement. So, what should you know about it?

According to TechCrunch, Meta is expected to be the owner and user of the submarine cable. For information, today, Meta uses around 10% of landline traffic, and 22% of mobile traffic worldwide through Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp applications. The development and investment in the artificial intelligence arena is seen to further increase the rate of traffic usage by users worldwide, making Meta develop their own infrastructure to accommodate internet traffic.

Meta is expected to share this plan in early 2025, and it may take years before it is fully operational. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. Hopefully, everything will be resolved soon.
