Meta has finally been sued for allegedly allowing these scam ads to continue to run rampant without any action being taken. The class action lawsuit was filed by Santa Clara County on behalf of California residents who say these scam ads violate state law. That said, what should you know about it?

Meta is not accused of only one allegation

For your information, the lawsuit seeks damages, civil damages, and an injunction prohibiting Meta from engaging in unfair business practices. In the writ of summons filed, Meta is also accused of tolerating false advertising misconduct and also creating "blockades" to block fraud reduction efforts if they are detrimental to the company.

Last year, Reuters reported that Meta generated around USD3 billion (~RM 12 billion) through advertising for scams, illegal gambling, pornography and other content banned on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. As of now, there are no further details on the news. So, we should wait for more announcements from Meta.
