Recently, Meta released Llama 2 as a competitor to Google Bard and ChatGPT. The main difference? It is available for free and accessible to everyone.

Llama, also known as Large Language Model Meta AI, allows people to download the new AI models directly or through a partnership. According to the announcement, the Llama 2 was born from a collaboration with Microsoft. It features the latest AI language model and will be more transparent with the data used. On top of that, Llama 2 will also be open for commercial and research use for free.

With this app, Meta aims to rival various AI models online and profit from generative AI tools (for images, texts, and more), like ChatGPT. To achieve this, the company plans on making the app more accessible and transparent with the code used. Zuckerberg added:

“Open source drives innovation because it enables many more developers to build with new technology. It also improves safety and security because when software is open, more people can scrutinise it to identify and fix potential issues. I believe it would unlock more progress if the ecosystem were more open, which is why we’re open-sourcing Llama 2.”

Meta also claimed that this transparency helps mitigate the bias that AI systems pick up. In addition, the American company is collaborating with Qualcomm to bring on-device AI with Llama 2 models.

As of now, it’s interesting to wonder how Malaysia can benefit from this progress. However, we might see a lot of brilliant Malaysians making full use of this app soon.
