Meta begins construction of their 29th data center in El Paso, Texas, specifically designed to support current and future AI workloads. So, what should you know about it?

These centres will be the backbone for AI development

With a capacity of up to 1GW, this facility will be the backbone for the development of advanced AI models such as smart assistants and video editing tools.

The project is expected to generate 1800 construction jobs and 100 operational positions in the initial phase, with an investment of over US$1.5 billion. Meta is also committed to sustainability with a closed cooling system without water use throughout the year and a target of becoming " water positive " by 2030.

Additionally, it means Meta will be recovering more water than they use with in El Paso, Meta stating that they will be recovering 200% of the water used by the El Paso Data Center back into the local watershed.

Moreover, the center's electricity will be matched 100% by renewable energy sources. Meta also works with local communities through AI training programs and community grants, as well as water restoration projects with DigDeep and the Texas Water Action Collaborative.
