At the end of June 2023, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it will take legal action against Meta for not cooperating to remove scam ads on Facebook. But that has been resolved, as announced by our Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil.

In the official posts on Facebook, Fahmi and MCMC finally met up with Meta representatives at PDRM headquarters, Bukit Aman. During the meeting, Meta expressed its commitment to working closely with MCMC and PDRM in efforts to curb cybercrime. This includes the 3R (race, royalty and religion), impersonation, online gambling, as well as scam ads.

According to Fahmi, he shared that the losses borne by Malaysians from January to May 2023 through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, have reached almost RM330 million in total. Compared with 2022, it is even worst than before due to the 25% increase. But with this alliance, Fahmi believes the issues will be reduced.

The meeting has also been attended by Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Teo Nie Ching, Chief of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and Chairman of MCMC, Tan Sri Mohamed Salim Fateh Din.
