Barely 3 months after it's official release in Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia are cutting down the price for the Microsoft Surface RT tablets. The price decrease follows what Microsoft has done for the US market with an overall RM450 decrease worldwide. This means that the Microsoft Surface RT tablets are now priced as follows:
- 32GB Microsoft Surface RT - RM1099
- 64GB Microsoft Surface RT - RM1399
- 32GB Microsoft Surface RT Touch Cover combo - RM1399
- 64GB Microsoft Surface RT Touch Cover combo - RM1699
The price cut is largely seen as a stock clearance move so that Microsoft can refresh their Microsoft Surface RT lineup with new Intel Haswell processors. Unfortunately, there are no price cuts for existing Surface Pro or other Surface accessories. At this price the 32GB Surface RT certainly sounds a bit more easier to stomach, but would you pay this much for a tablet with limited apps, laggy performance and no keyboard? This may be too little too late though, as current tablet and touchscreen notebook models are still priced much lower, are more powerful and have full access to many apps. If anything, Microsoft could just donate these first generation Surface RT tablets to educational institutions for perhaps a tax rebate.
