During August this year, Microsoft Japan was trying out a new project called Work-Life Choice Challenge Summer 2019. The initiative was to give its 2300 employees five Fridays off without decreasing their paycheck.

After five weeks of experimenting, Microsoft Japan came out with a report that showed the employees were more productive and happier (of course) instead of working five days a week.  “Work a short time, rest well and learn a lot,” Microsoft Japan president and CEO Takuya Hirano said.

Other than productivity, electricity usage was down 23% in the office with the additional day off per week. The usage of paper was also decreased as they printed 59% fewer pages of paper during the trial (fewer works, save planet).

A similar experiment like this was carried out in New Zealand as well. The trust management company, Perpetual Guardian, implemented the policy of working a four-day week which also helped boosting up the productivity of employees. The employees claimed that they had better work-life balance and this experiment improved their focus in the office.

So, when are we having this implemented in Malaysia?! Let us know what you think about this move! Stay with us to know more about interesting news on TechNave.com.
