When it comes to an anti-virus program, Windows Defender is often shelved to the back replaced by more favourable anti-virus programs (Avast, Avira, and others). While that may sound like a sad situation, the team behind the program probably aren't affected at all and they are excited to showcase a public preview of Microsoft Defense ATP for Android phones.

As officially announced by Rob Lefferts, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance, on Microsoft's blog post, the Microsoft Defense ATP will take on new mobile threats such as phishing, malware detection and many more. From the blog, the program's anti-phishing won't only just work on web browsers but as well as through SMS/texting, social media accounts like WhatsApp, email and other apps. It will also be a proactive scanner at all times so whenever the user downloads something on their phone, the program will quickly and scan and detect for any potential malware and apps that may pose security risks.

Moreover, it's also integrated with Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Conditional Access as layers of protection from accessing corporate resources. The Microsoft Defender ATP can be a unified security experience for the user on both PC (Windows, Mac, Linux) and Android smartphones. From that point of view, it is an idealistic method to protect yourself, better safe than sorry!
