For the first time in a decade, Microsoft will add a new key to the keyboards of Windows PCs. This "Copilot key" is expected to show up at CES 2024.
According to the Microsoft announcement, the Copilot key marks the first major change to the Windows PC keyboard in almost 30 years. For your info, most keyboards have a 'Windows' key that has the Windows icon. This key can be combined with other keys as shortcuts for specific functions. For example, the Windows+V shortcut brings up the Clipboard history in Windows 11. As for the new Copilot key, it will serve as a one-press shortcut to activate Microsoft Copilot, an AI chatbot that helps with Internet searches, generating images, and more.
As a reminder, Microsoft Copilot was first introduced in March last year. The idea was to have it assist Windows users in various areas and its existing apps, including Word, Excel, and Excel. This shortcut key will presumably provide quick access to the AI tool. At the upcoming CES 2024, Microsoft plans to introduce this new shortcut key in 11 new Windows PCs (could be desktop PCs or laptops). No specific models were mentioned, but the company did confirm that new models of its Microsoft Surface series laptops will get the new Copilot key in the coming months.
So, what do you think? Will this Copilot key be useful for the average Microsoft Windows user? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for further updates.
