Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia visits Huawei in China

So recently, YB Dr. Maszlee Malik, the Minister of Education of Malaysia, and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail visited China but to different states. YB Dr. Maszlee Malik was in Shenzhen for the closing ceremony of Huawei’s Seeds for the Future, whereas Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail visited Huawei's Beijing Research Center.

Let's start with the Seeds for the Future first, it's actually an exchange student programme where ten students from our nine local universities took part in Huawei's annual flagship programme. The company has been doing this since 2014, where over 80 Malaysian ICT undergraduates the opportunity to undergo a two-week study trip in China. However, this time the ten participants visited Huawei's HQ and research facilities to see how modern technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence are developed. Of course, they also took a tour to the Great Wall and Forbidden City.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was in Beijing and met up with Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei. The purpose of the visitation was to discuss the developments in ICT, ICT infrastructure rollout in Malaysia, as well as how to leverage new technology to build smart cities and improve smart healthcare and smart education in Malaysia, particularly in the areas of 5G connectivity for its potential for applications of Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI), crime prevention and also in the improvement for health and medical services.

Currently, there are over 20,000 skilled ICT professionals at Huawei's Global Training Center in Cyberjaya. Huawei Malaysia promises to continue the ICT Academy program, collaborating with 14 local universities, strengthening the talent development of the ICT industry in Malaysia.
