Mobile gamers would have to spend at least $50K for a fully upgraded character in Diablo Immortal

Diablo Immortal is Blizzard Entertainment's latest mobile game that arrived last week. While Malaysians are still waiting and itching to play, there is some bad news for those who are looking to play hardcore. Turns out that Diablo Immortal is heavily reliant on a pay-to-win (P2W) system like most mobile games.

Mobile games are no stranger to introducing microtransactions, as it's one of the few ways for companies to make profits since they are often free to download. However, sources have pointed out that if you want to fully maximise your character build, you would have to spend a lot of monies. In fact, a total of 50k-80k USD after much calculation.

The calculation was initially estimated to be over 100k USD, according to YouTuber Bellular News. Nevertheless, it's the Legendary Gems being taken into account so that players can get their hands on Legendary items just like the main game series. So if you're a free-to-play mobile gamer, it's very unlikely that you get to earn a top-rated Legendary item. It was also estimated that if you continually play without paying, it would take around 10 years just to get the best stuff.

To make matters worse, paying for Legendary Gems isn't even 100% guaranteed for everyone. So with this, this is another issue of loot boxes appearing again that have damaged other video games' reputations such as Star Wars Battlefront 2. Diablo Immortal was also banned in Belgium and Netherlands due to the loot box game mechanics which encourage gambling, and it has encountered some issues with Exynos-based Samsung Galaxy devices that made it unplayable.

As of 8 June 2022, Diablo Immortal's score on Metacritic by fans is at an astounding 0.5 rating. This is a far cry from the critic reviews at 75.
