After the reveal of the high-end HTC Vive and Oculus Rift from Valve, many are feeling that VR is something beyond their reach and means, as the entry point for high-end VR seems to be in the realms of high-end gaming machines. However, a new report states that Microsoft’s own Holographic OS may not need something high end – in fact, the PC at your house right now may already be supported for VR.

The specs list for Microsoft’s VR looks to be low enough that most PCs out there can be running the Windows Holographic OS in no time. It asks for at minimum a quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a DirectX12-enabled GPU, and 1GB of storage. That is achievable, even for PCs that was built or made within the last several years. Brands like HP. Dell, Lenovo, Acer and ASUS are said to bring these head-mounted displayes to the market from next year onwards, with prices starting from USD299 (~RM 1320) onwards.

Will this low entry-point for VR make more people adopt it as part of their daily use, or will it still be a novelty feature that is only applicable for particular use case scenarios? We will have to wait and see. In the mean time, stay tuned to TechNave for more technology news and information.
