Back in May 2025, PRO-NET, a subsidiary of Proton, unveiled its new PROTON e.MAS 5 as a new affordable compact EV for the Malaysian market. While there is no price tag yet, the EV was recently previewed under camouflage and is set for a Q4?2025 launch.
Key Specs and Design
Besides knowing the launch timeline, sources have gotten a few confirmed specifications. The e.MAS 5 is basically a rebadged Geely Star Wish (Xingyuan), complete with distinctive C-pillar slashes and rounded profiles.
This sub-B-segment hatchback has a dual?cowl dash featuring a 14.6-inch infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel. In addition, it also offers a 375L boot (expandable to 1320L) and includes a 70L front trunk (frunk).
The standard rear?motor option comes with 79 PS/130?Nm and a 30?kWh LFP battery for ~310?km CLTC range. Meanwhile, the long-range setup features 116 PS/150?Nm and a 40kWh battery delivering up to 410?km CLTC.
Local Assembly and Pricing Strategy
The e.MAS 5 will initially enter Malaysia as fully imported (CBU), with local CKD production starting by late 2025 via the new Tanjung Malim EV plant. It is expected to be priced below the RM100,000 floor, making it cheaper than the eMas?7’s RM105k starting price. The CKD version may benefit from tax exemptions tied to Proton’s local facility.
With this price range, the e.MAS 5 is aimed squarely at the younger, urban buyers. Expect more details, including local range figures, pricing, and official specs once the eMas?5 enters local assembly.
