After being in the rumour mills for a while now, Motorola has finally confirmed the launch date of its upcoming smartphone, the Moto X40. Taking to its official Weibo account, the company announced that the device will be making its debut during a launch event in China on 15 December 2022.

The successor to the Moto Edge X30, the name of the smartphone has been changed for the Chinese market as the Lenovo-owned company is no longer using the ‘Edge’ branding within the country. It is still unknown whether the Edge branding will be retained globally or if Motorola will make it consistent with the lineup’s name in China.

On Weibo, Motorola shared a couple of teasers for the Moto X40, though the specs of the device weren’t expressly revealed. What was revealed though were glimpses of the smartphone’s front and back design that look pretty consistent with alleged renders that were leaked.

According to rumours, the Moto X40 will feature a 6.67-inch 144Hz OLED display with curved edges with a Full HD+ resolution. It is also being touted to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, up to 18GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 512GB storage, a 60MP selfie camera and a 50MP rear main camera. Of course, do take this information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet.
