Yesterday, we reported that Muslim Pro app came under fire for selling location data to third-party brokers and the US military as well. In fact, Vice's Motherboard did a whole new column on the facts and details of how they operate and it's a tough one on the company. Despite that, the Muslim Pro Team released a press statement in their defence to the matter.

In the press statement, Muslim Pro denied selling any personal data to the US Military and they claimed that the media reports are incorrect and untrue. As they continued to state in taking their users' privacy seriously, they also mentioned that the Muslim Pro app is also free to use without having to sign up or login so hence, they won't have as many personal data to collect and process even if they wanted to.

That said, they also contradicted themselves by admitting to sharing anonymized data with selected technology partners. If you read our news, X-Mode happens to be one of the partners and they are the third-party broker that was responsible for selling location data to the US military. Muslim Pro also confirmed that they have ended their partnership with all their data partners, including X-Mode.

In Muslim Pro's defence, the reason why they shared anonymized data was to "better serve" their users and "help businesses enhance their product and service offerings". Likewise, X-Mode's business stand is so that these data can be used for "counter-terrorism". Either way, I think the press statement didn't really help at all as it is quite contradicting and the users aren't having it (you can see their replies on the Twitter link above).

Anyway, most of the app that we use tend to have access to our data. Our advice is just don't put too many personal stuff in there, the world doesn't need to know them. Stay safe and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
