The Malaysian Ministry of Transport (MoT) is now planning to integrate the My50 monthly public transport pass with the Touch 'n Go (TnG) eWallet to make it easier for users to renew their passes digitally. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, explained that this initiative aims to reduce the need for users to queue at LRT station counters, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. He said:
“I have asked Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to integrate the My50 pass with TnG eWallet to make it easier for users. In the coming months, this integration will be completed, making the process easier for users by next year.”
During the recent presentation of Budget 2025, the government allocated RM216 million to support the My50 initiative this year. With the opening of the LRT3 line next year, the government expects more users to switch to the My50 pass, indirectly increasing the congestion rate at the purchase counter.
Since its introduction in 2019, My50 is often used by the local community and has seen a significant increase in users. According to Loke, a total of 226000 active users were recorded until September 2024, which is more than double the 98000 users when this initiative was first introduced.
The government's initiative to provide My50 passes to the people allows the people to reduce the cost of spending where they only use RM2 a day to travel to work within a valid period of 30 days. In addition, one-day and one-week passes are also offered which are often used for one trip only such as sightseeing which is only offered for as low as RM5 a day where you are free to go anywhere using public transport.
With this step, the purchase of passes on Touch 'n Go (TnG) eWallet is expected to be convenient for users because it is more accessible to users without having to waste time in long queues at the purchase counter. This integration also contributes to the advancement of an efficient and more user-friendly public transport system.
