The National Security Council (MKN) announced several security improvements to the MyDigital ID platform as part of efforts to strengthen the protection of the people's digital identities in Malaysia. Let’s take a closer look.

A more proactive measure to ensure your safety

According to a statement issued today, the move was implemented following the increased use of digital services among citizens, businesses and government agencies. MKN said threats such as online fraud, identity theft, data theft and cyber exploitation demanded more proactive security measures.

Among the changes introduced is the addition of a new layer of security for MyDigital ID registration at kiosks. Through this, users will need to undergo a real-time facial biometric check, which will be matched with the National Registration Department (JPN) database during the registration process.

Besides that, MKN said the move aims to increase the accuracy of identity verification, thereby reducing the risk of identity misuse and unauthorised access. Existing users will also be informed of the need for periodic facial biometric re-verification to ensure the integrity and security of digital identities are maintained.

The maintenance will take place starting 12 June 2026

Moreover, to implement this feature, MyDigital ID kiosk maintenance work is scheduled to take place from 12 June 2026 at 6.00 am until 14 June 2026 at 6.00 am. These improvements will be implemented in stages before being expanded to all MyDigital ID kiosks.

During the kiosk maintenance period, users can still register for MyDigital ID using a smartphone by downloading the MyDigital ID application via the App Store, Google Play or Huawei AppGallery and following the registration process provided.

Furthermore, MKN informed that these improvements are just the beginning of a more comprehensive effort to strengthen the security of the country's digital identity ecosystem. The agency will continue to work with various relevant parties to coordinate security measures across identity and identity verification platforms, including MyKad, to ensure that the people's digital identities are always protected.
